Review of Mimic (1997) by Kristoffer H — 18 Oct 2009
This movie, in my opinion, is very had to rate. The movie starts out like a classic slasher movie. The story is quickly set up and then they jump straight into the killing without telling us exactly what is killing people.
We are given various shots that reveal part of the giant insect that is killing people, but it is usually covered by shadow. This kind of reminded me of Alien because in Alien you don't actually get a shot of the alien until the very end of the film.
So, the first half of this movie kept me very entertained and I thought I was going to enjoy a really good slasher movie. However, this quickly changed. It turned from Alien to Aliens. All of a sudden the audience is given full body shots left and right.
Then we find out that there is not only one giant insect but hundreds of giant insects. This made me lose a little bit of interest beacuse it just became your stereotypical action type movie. It became very predictable.
Since the movie was only good for half the film, but the first half is really well done, I'll give this film a 60%. It is worth watching, but only once....maybe even turn it off about 45 minutes in.
