Review of Mimic (1997) by Kenneth B — 15 Nov 2012
It's quite a while since I saw this. In fact my taste has changed somewhat since 1997. It is worth noting that this was the first ever Del Toro film that I ever saw. Of course at the time the significance of this would be lost on me.
He had already made Cronos by this point, which is superior to Mimic and he went on to make 3 superb horror films in Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage. I remember Mimic being a slightly clunky yet enjoyable science fiction-horror but it could perhaps be seen as more of a stepping stone rather than anything more significant.
