Review of Mimic (1997) by Dr. F P — 16 Nov 2013
Mimic really isn't that bad, it serves as a good everyday killer bug movie but that's about it. Firstly, it has some characters that aren't super annoying, I thought the little boy was pretty cool.
Secondly, the insects could have looked A LOT worse, like Syfy channel worse, and they didn't. They are definitely passable. There are a few very good moments here, I particularly liked the set up of the death of the preacher against the JESUS SAVES neon sign, I also liked the death of the cop near the table with the sewing machine.
Also I loved the musical score and visual production of the opening titles. Lastly, Mimic is quite good and isn't overly exhaustive to watch, it's just not anything i'd watch out for either unless you lap up killer bug/monster movies or are a loyal fan of Guillermo Del Toro - who had his own problems with the studio on this picture, sadly!
