A little surprised that even after watching this film a couple of times that I didn't realise it was from del Toro, not really the caliber I would expect from him to be honest. Not saying it is a bad film at all, except for the CGI and a cheesey ending I have a soft spot for this creature-feature.
The suspense building is awesome and deflects from the stupid plotline, there are even several moments where you can honestly feel your arse on the edge of your seat. Worth a DVD purchase next time you are in the supermarket.
