Review of Millions (1937) by Winfield W — 03 Nov 2010
Never have I seen a more consistent director. Danny Boyle has made amazing film after amazing film...well with two hiccups (Life Less Ordinary and the Beach). Millions is one of those films that incorporates all the qualities of a great film, the music, the cinematography, the story and the acting. Like typical Boyle faire there are almost two different stories told here. The first being the young Damian looking for his mother within the stories of saints and then the story of the villain. Sometimes those after stories like the villian one here detract from the main story but in this case it seems to work. At no point does the villian overshadow the main themes of the overall tale.
I highly recommend all Boyle movies, even The Beach. Millions is one of Boyle's best and proved that he has a place amongst directors of Oscar caliber.
