Review of Million Dollar Arm (2014) by Ojas V — 26 May 2014
"India is a land of extremes..." the astute sports agent played by John Hamm quips. It's too bad that the film itself was so inoffensive and by the numbers that it was not able to capture the true tension from that insight.
This is a Disney movie that has some lighthearted moments, and follows a simple story to take the audience where it wants to go, by charming them instead of provoking their sensibilities. And it succeeds, through the interesting and diverse landscape of India, and the earnestness of the Indian athletes.
The music is also well crafted by AR Rahman. It's not a bad film, just a very simple one.
