Review of Million Dollar Arm (2014) by Jon H — 31 May 2014
Although I know next to nothing and hate next to everything about sports, I was genuinely excited to see this movie and walked into the theatre with high expectations. Long story short, I was let down.
I did enjoy some parts; I smiled every time Amit appeared on-screen, and I really liked seeing Rikuh and Dinesh adapt to our 'world'. However, everything else felt all wrong. The story crawled along at a mind-numbingly slow pace.
Most of the sports/business jargon basically flew over my head (Wait, sports players can just switch between agencies like that? What? And what are these agencies providing them, anyway? Publicity?) and most of the characters I didn't find myself caring about.
Speaking of characters: JB was probably the douchiest main character I have EVER seen. How in the world do you expect me to feel sympathy for this douchebag?! He was literally nothing but a model-dating, money-obsessed jerkball for most of the movie.
Even at the end, I didn't feel anything for his character. The movie had a lot of heart; I'll give it that. But the execution, in my eyes, was terrible. I will not be watching this again.
