Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by John P — 15 Aug 2009
"The Coens mix noir and gangsters and get this awesome, layered, concoction. Their scripting (as is usual for them) is fan-fucking-tastic, with Gabriel Byrne getting almost too many wisecracks for his own good. Every bit of casting here works, and this sort of hyperstylized action may put off some and may take some getting used to (it took me about 30 mins to get into the groove of things), but I think on subsequent viewings (which I hear tell makes quite a difference with this film in particular) those criticisms will be erased. As it stands on one viewing, this is an excellent outing all around, I await the day when the 4.5 stars can add on the other half of a star.".
I have re-watched it, and this is the day where I add on the other half a star.
