Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Zacho D — 25 May 2010
This was the 3rd Coen Bros movie, and I still think it's one of their best ones after Fargo, Lebowski and O Brother. Byrne's Tom Reagan leads us through a slew of turns and twists, which usually wind up with him getting his ass kicked, but he does have the last laugh.
The photography and design is great, the characters are pretty vampy, but original and mainly amusing in that special Coen-way, and the actors give it their all. I especially enjoyed Albert Finney as Leo, "still an artist with the Thompson.
" There's plenty of gunplay and bloody brutal violence present to keep things exciting in between intrigues. Also check out a cameo of Sam Raimi as a two pistol packing cop before he gets splattered all over the screen.
