Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Rachael H — 20 Oct 2010
.A cool gangster film with some good suspenseful scenes. The characters are all pretty interesting and the mise-en-scene is very mysterious and moody. The repetition of Bernie's last words later on in the film completely make the climax scenes of the film. The story's complex but not too crazy to follow.
My favourite scene is when the house is on fire and the guy's hiding under the bed. the juxtaposition of the song "Oh Danny boy" and the action makes the scene full of tension.
It also has the romance and affair, which is very interesting for the character development. Overall, very enjoyable gangster film. I'm probably being generous with the ratings but we'll see if my opinion changes on a second viewing.
