A stunning film whose multilayered narrative is only matched by it's visual beauty. Are we reliving the actress' life, or just scenes from her movies? Is it really her flashback, or is her admirer acting out a lifelong fantasy? The simple answer is all of the above, yet Satoshi Kon manages to balance all these interpretations in a way that keeps you guessing, yet it never distracts the viewer from the heart of the story, only serving to draw them further in.
