Review of Milk (1998) by Jay E — 14 Jan 2011
Milk has everything going for it. Great script from Dustin Lance Black, great direction from Gus Van Sant, wonderful performances from it's cast which include Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, James Franco as his lover Scott Smith, Emile Hirsch as Cleve Jones, and Josh Brolin as Dan White.
Milk is about the first openly gay elected official and chronicles his early days and in office, mixing with film and documentary footage. What I love about Milk is that it's about a gay activist, but doesn't push the subject of homosexuality on the audience.
It just tells his story and his fight for gay rights, but it's just not about him fighting for gay rights, but for rights as an individual in society.
