Review of Miles Ahead (2016) by Andruw F — 26 Jul 2016
There was a great movie in there, it just got lost in Hollywood. I guess the need to make a Jazz icon, and one of the most timeless figures into a pseudo action-hero / gangster overpowered the need to make an at least partially factual film.
Don't get me wrong, the movie is tremendously quotable. It just lacks any kind of possible troubling ideas of what Davis was actually going through during his silent period. It also doesn't help that when it finally seems like Davis is going to actually confront any real issues, it skips to a concert.
