Review of Miles Ahead (2016) by Ryan B — 13 Apr 2016
Don Cheadle nails it in direction and performance in this off-the-cuff musical interpretation of a Miles Davis movie. Like Todd Haynes' I'm Not There, Cheadle uses Davis' unconventional approach to music as a template in approaching the tired music biopic genre, intercutting elliptical editing techniques like time changes and mirroring the musician's vast musical interests to evoke a specific emotional truth from an artist who defied classification.
This is without a doubt one of the most innovative interpretations of a musician's life ever captured on screen.
