Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Abigail P — 06 Oct 2007
One of the most gripping openings of a film I've seen. It keeps the pace up pretty well for the rest of the film. There are some great observations of ambition, greed and money and of the contempt the rich can hold for the origins of their wealth.
The elder daughter was indeed horrible but not beyond understanding. The mother has to take some blame for the way she turned out.
