Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Doug C — 18 Jan 2011
"You'll never be anything but a common frump whose father lived over a grocery store and whose mother took in washing." Another of the great noirs based on a James Caine novel. Joan Crawford earned an Academy Award and revitalized her career for her exceptional acting in this film as Mildred Pierce, a woman obsessed with satisfying her daughter's desire for an upper class lifestyle.
A compelling murder mystery with strong visual noir motifs and excellent plot development, this film is an entertaining and classic film well-preserved by time.
