Review of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) by Odanis G — 23 Sep 2017
These are the Power Rangers at their highest potential. The movie budget allows for these 6 heroes to embody everything they were meant to be on the small screen. 50% of the original show's footage was actually directly pulled from the Japanese Super Sentai program. Production didn't expect the show to be renewed for a second season, much less to become the cult phenomenon it has across the past 25 years.
The films ability to fully imagine the Ranger's potential brings to life fast moving fight scenes in widescreen presentation executed by the six star actors aka gymnasts, martial artists, and MMA professionals. The film ditches those dinky Super Sentai spandex unitards for armored uniforms that feel strong, flexible, and futuristic.
The storiline follows a true evil villain, Ivan Ooze, who turns on the bad guys who've summoned him, naming them incompetent and taking over their mission to destroy Zordon and his team of Rangers, and he does so successfully weakening Zordon to the point of death and ridding the Rangers of their connection to any superhuman powers. The heroes are now forced to embark on a dangerous journey to a distant planet, effectively leaving Earth to the mercy of Ivan, all on a single hope they may find a new power source for them to tap into.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a tale of perseverance and teamwork weaved into an exciting and action packed narrative topped with the obligatory campy.
Cherry for sweetness ??
