Review of Mighty Aphrodite (1995) by Komal S — 25 Jun 2011
Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite is once again a good comedy film with great preformances, specialy by oscar-winner Mira Sorvino. This is the story about the married couple Lenny (Woody Allen) and Amanda Weinrib (Helena Bonham Carter) who wants to have a child, but Amanda want to adopt a child, something Lenny is totally against, but when he sees the little baby boy, he is enchanted by his appearance, and they decides to call him Max, and he grows up to be a very smart kid, who even qualifies for a special class. But theirs trouble in paradise Lenny is so crurious of whom Max got his inteligence from, His mother or his father. After a long time of detective work he finaly find the mother, her name is Linda Ash and she been in a few movies along with her work as a prostitute. Lenny then decides to help her to a more decent way of living. Lenny do not tell Amanda about, thought Amanda had started having a love affair herself with a owner of an art gallery who helping her start her own gallery.
Mighty Aphrodite is a good, some times to light and to safe. But thanks to the colorful characters specialy Mira Sorvino's Linda Ash with her shockingly colored clothes and with her glaring high volume voice, which can make her very enoying over long time. Woody Allen always have a special way of telling each story. This time is narreted by a greek chorus who tells the story from an antique greek theather stadium. Sometimes they interact in the story itself. Thumbs Up.
