Review of Mighty Aphrodite (1995) by Chad G — 31 May 2008
I've become a big Woody Allen fan so I couldn't pass up a chance to watch this movie when it aired on TV recently. I had relatively high expectations going in, but it didn't really live up to them. It's a decent film, but it's not as good as other Allen films and is probably my least favourite out of the ones I've seen thus far.
I liked the premise and thought it was relatively well-written and that the acting was good for the most part, but I found Mira Sorvino's performance to be annoying and mediocre at best, and I didn't find anything about the movie to be that great. The Roman theatrical segueways were an interesting touch, but they were somewhat stupid at points.
Overall, it's a movie that I recommend watching because it is better than average - just don't expect it to be as good as some of Woody Allen's other stuff.
