An all star cast, but perhaps the production put too much money into actors' salaries and not enough in using the correct aircraft and state of the art special effects. This seems to be the biggest criticism.
Of course, in 1976, prior to the special effects breakthroughs of George Lucas and the CG animation we have today, it might have been impossible to accurately recreate the battle.
