Review of Midsommar (2019) by Chriscrossed — 05 Jul 2019
Ugh, such a film school project. And painfully long. Cinematography is great, but so much detail is ripped off from the original version of The Wicker Man that Ari Aster should get a lawyer. Clueless, soulless young friends making ridiculous choices, zero dramatic tension--yeah, bring a book.
Midsommar may fuel a new Oscar category, though--the "Woulda Coulda Shoulda." Really, if you like grownup creepy without being bludgeoned by the filmmaker's unoriginality, go find that TWM 1973 cult classic, which also has a great soundtrack by Paul Giovanni.
