Review of Midnight Special (2016) by Ken S — 21 Jun 2016
Jeff Nichols has quietly decided to become one of the finest and most interesting filmmakers working today. He's just been making great little small movies that are not like the usual Hollywood fair, and are beautifully shot yet easy to get into.
This film, about a father and son on the run from a cult and the federal government, is a wonderful sci-fi/fantasy chase film, in which the young boy has some kind of mystical power as they try to get to some mysterious location.
The film doesn't over-explain or force too much exposition, it just tells a nice little tale through visuals and great performances from everyone involved. Just a really good movie.
