Review of Midnight Special (2016) by C. Brian B — 04 Jul 2016
Just watched this today. Interesting movie. I enjoyed the other Jeff Nichols movies such as Take Shelter and Shotgun stories. This one has the same flavor of it. A ambiguity runs through the movie the whole way, always wondering what the hell is going on and whats going to happen.
The actors seem to say more through their actions and the looks on their faces and their eyes then what they say. Kind of like the old spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood. Especially with Michael Shannon, and his awesome glare, he always says more with his eyes then he does with his mouth.
Also, found that is has that Southern flavor to it, like Steinbeck had in all his writing. This movie will not be for everyone, it is vague where most movies are decisive. Plus it is very slow paced and the CGI is a minimum.
But if you like a though provoking movie, and actors that seem like real human beings dealing with something incredible, I highly recommend it. Also, interesting to see Adam Driver in a post Star War's role.
