Review of Midnight Special (2016) by Scarlettmi — 25 Nov 2016

This movie manages to throw you into the story with very little explanation while also being pretty slow and quiet. Midnight Special spends very little time answering questions or explaining what's happening. It could be frustrating to some but it just added to the magic of the story for me.

There was something reminiscent of 70s-era Spielberg, where things felt just a little less safe and where the fantastic could be both inspiring and dangerous. I was really drawn into the quiet, intimate story and was invested in these characters.

I found the effects really well done. They were beautiful and strange. Near the end of the film, the way they used used the effects left a huge impact. They didn't draw attention to themselves and that just made it all that much more special.
