Review of Midnight Run (1988) by Ted E — 25 Oct 2007
Director Martin Brest perfected the comedy action film with MIDNIGHT RUN. Although not as successful as his earlier BEVERLY HILLS COP, it is a superior and more satisfying film. Robert DeNiro proved he had the comedy chops as an earnest and irritable bounty hunter who is chased by the FBI, the mob and a rival bounty hunter as he attempts to transport an embezzler (Charles Grodin) across the country.
The De-Niro-Grodin chemistry alone could have carried the film but it also boasts an impressive supporting cast and a script that balances thrills and laughs with singular dexterity.
