Review of Midnight Run (1988) by Shawn B — 07 Sep 2010
Hilarious, a great buddy comedy in the vein of Plains, Trains and Automobiles. Charles Grodin is really the star of this thing, or at least in my eyes. De Niro is great, but Grodin's character is really original and relatable at the same time.
Martin Brest's direction is what brings the film down, he falls into plenty of cheesy 80's cliche directing choices, and with a score by Danny Elfman, I was a little let down. The ending was also rather cliche and cheesy, but the heart was in the right place throughout.
To be honest, those things didn't really matter to me because I just had a really fun time with this film.
