Review of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997) by Penthesilea G — 05 Apr 2008
What a fantastic offering from Clint Eastwood. This film is like a thick juicy porterhouse steak in that it is something that you will want to chew on for a while. Some may find it less tasty and a bit harder to swallow, but then, we're not worried about those unimaginative types.
The scales of balance, is what this film is about. Balance is nature's way. (a subtle reference to considerations of bisexuality, but also a description to the difficulties that bisexuals must face even in these modern times) The characters in this film are incredibly diverse and fascinating.
Even the town winds up being one of the characters, and the town itself seems to have multiple facets. Light and Dark, safe and unsafe, good and evil. This film is all about the duality of perception.
The hard wrench of reality vs the more wispy supernatural. A film of deep wisdom while throughly entertaining. This film is a great addition to any home library.
