Review of Midnight Express (1978) by Jane S — 26 Jan 2008
This film leads you to believe that an American was unfairly treated in a Turkish prison. It portrays Turks as barbaric people and I have since learned that this film badly damaged the tourist trade for Turkey - I'm not surprised! The story is true but it is a shame that it has been depicted at such cost to the Turks.
Most of the Turkish people I have met have been the most friendly I could ever wish to be acquainted with although, admittedly their culture is very different. The film was very well acted and watchable.
The moral of the story is don't break the law and if you do, prisons in other Countries might not be the same as those in your own!
