Review of Midnight Express (1978) by Scott M — 19 Jul 2008
A tragic story about how prison can transform seemingly decent citizens (or maybe people who have done one thing wrong in their lives worthy of perhaps a few years punishment) into soulless demons. Great performances from Brad Davis, John Hurt, and Randy Quaid.
I had no idea that the "oh billy" joke from Cable Guy was based on this movie. That made me laugh, but obviously that moment is very tragic in this movie. On the other hand, the movie seems a little cruel to other cultures, and it's difficult to know whether they are being fair or not.
Forgetting that, I would definitely recommend this movie.
