Review of Midnight Express (1978) by Jessica J — 16 Aug 2010
Even though Oliver Stone didn't write it, it has all of his usual controversial and over-the-top bullshit. Even worse; though it was developed based on the experiences of a real person, the lies concocted make up the best parts of the movie, so one wonders why they simply didn't write a completely different story one instead of attempting to borrow from this man's life.
These few really interesting sequences are separated by a consistently dark, brooding, and violent tone, but the separation from reality rends the visceral impact impotent.
