Review of Midnight Express (1978) by Colin F — 07 Feb 2011
Midnight Express is probably The Wizard of Oz of prison flicks and well worth checking out, it is quite a journey from beginning to end and feels longer than 2hrs!
To be honest I found it hard to be sympathetic with a character that is stupid enough to try and smuggle dope out of probably one of the worst places to do so, saying that the poor guy really does go through hell.
The film is very well made, looks very authentic and the Turkish jail and characters make it look like hell on earth. There are great performances from the late Brad Davies and Jon Hurt. I really like the Synthesiser soundtrack; it dates the film but great music.
