Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Katherine G — 17 Nov 2008
One sad effin' movie. After thinking it was terribly depressing when I saw it in my 20s, I have come to see this movie as a celebration of America. This time around, I found a lot of joy in it. Yes, we have fallen from grace, but we remain vibrant and vital, with hearts of fire.
Also captures a very specific time in America and presents it unlike any other film though many great movies from this era are cut from the same cloth. Joe Buck: you can kick him, but you can't keep him down; Ratso Rizzo, not so much.
