Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Justin M — 07 May 2010
This is basically an actor's movie. The plot, such as it is, is nothing special, and the movie kind of meanders on a lot of the time. There were some scenes that just didn't feel like they belonged.
But as a vehicle to show us what Voight and Hoffman can do, the movie succeeds admirably. It's also kind of interesting to watch movies shift from the musical-filled romp of the 60s to the grittiness of the 70s.
This movie felt like a classic "70s" film. In that sense, it feels historic; sort of a bridge between two different styles of filmmaking. All in all, definitely worth watching.
