Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Harry W — 02 Oct 2012
Midnight Cowboy is hardcore. It hits up close and personal and shows the true dark side of New York which has been coverd by a facade commercialism has put up. It's gritty and relentless and there is no true resolution to that and it makes the story hard to look at, but it's unforgettable.
Although the film may hit a little too hard for some viewers, it's a great film. Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight's performances make it difficult to turn away, and the film's creative style and great film editing ensure that the message get's across. Midnight Cowboy has good moral values and implores important messages about friendship and knowing right from wrong. Also, the iconic song Harry Nilsson plays is one that will stick in your head for ages. It's a great film that altough really tough at times, is one you won't forget.
