Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Christopher H — 02 Nov 2013
It's strange watching a movie I know barely anything about as I watched it yet recognised so much of its iconography. Midnight Cowboy isn't a very easy film to take, there's the subject matter and the way the protoganists are handled for one, then there's the oh-so-60s "drug-fuelled party" sequence and a lot of the Jon Voigt meandering that's just painfully boring to watch.
It's gritty, it's emotional, it packs a punch, it's also a little bit fast and loose, a little too neat in the end, and a little too contrite given its ugly beginnings and middles. A very strange flick indeed.
