Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Todd E — 01 Mar 2010
Anything the film has to say, or any critique it has against the oppressive nature of American culture, is overshadowed by the nuances in the two lead performances and the sheer power of their emotional journey.
I'm surprised at how gutsy the technical aspects of this film are. The late 60s/70s was really an interesting era for American film, to say the obvious. I don't think anything like this could be made into a mainstream success today.
