Review of Midnight Cop (1988) by Larry Y — 01 Sep 2013
Midnight Cop is one of the most bizarre and tonally muddled films I've seen recently. The movie is supposed to be a cliche'd story about a down on his luck detective solving a series of crimes and coming out of it a better and richer person in the end, or something, but the way that it's executed is alarmingly strange.
I do get the sense that the world that the movie is supposed to take place in is the future, and it definitely has a bit of a Blade Runner feel to it, especially considering some of the lighting choices and set design.
Maybe that's just me though. The acting, editing, dubbing and writing is just head-scratching most of the time and you'll find yourself laughing at it and enjoying it because it's not very good.
For that, I give it a recommendation. I haven't really seen a movie like it, and I doubt I'll see another one to compare.
