Review of Midgets vs Mascots (2011) by Michael B — 06 May 2010
When this movie first started I honestly almost turned it off. The premise is ridiculous, the acting is terrible and some of the jokes early on didn't deliver with their intended impact. Once the little people and mascots are introduced, you get a better feel for the characters and the film slowly starts growing on you.
Gary Coleman, Taco, and The Sheriff were all entertaining as hell. Seeing Gary Coleman interact with his tool of a coach was a definite highlight. There's just something hilarious about watching that guy get all fired up and go on the attack.
I wasn't even convinced that he was acting at certain points. I'm pretty sure the actor playing his coach really did piss Gary Coleman off by insulting him, and need to defend himself from "Webster's" (as the coach called him) onslaught.
Taco was just vulgar as hell but came up with quite a few amazing quotes. The Sheriff was a badass and you will be blown away when the man under the mask is finally revealed at the end of the film. This movie starts out slow, the story is idiotic, but it's a comedy and is funny.
It does what it set out to do, which is make you laugh. Take the movie title into consideration and don't rent or buy this expecting to see the next Casablanca. Give this one a chance... you may just end up seeing the funniest movie you've seen so far this year.
