Review of Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life (2016) by Mpreviews — 01 Apr 2018
Coming from someone who really enjoyed the middle school book series, this is a decent big screen adaptation of the first book. The plot is basically the same as the first book, though it takes several liberties, but I can look past that seeing as it still says true to the source material for the most part.
Rafe himself is a pretty good protagonist, and most of the supporting cast is enjoyable to watch. But the principal is WAY too cruel for me to actually believe he's been the principal of the school for like a decade without getting sued by a parent.
The pop songs, while a bit too high in number, fit in pretty well with the situations they are used in. So as a whole, middle school: the worst years of my life is a decent adaptation of the popular book series.
Though I would only really recommend it to those who are actually fans of the books, because much like the diary of a wimpy kid films, I think only fans of the books would get much out of it.
