Review of Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life (2016) by Jon C — 03 Feb 2018
A smarter-than-average teen flick.
Way more mature and enjoyable than a lot of kiddy schlock we're used to these days.
Rafe has been kicked out of so many schools, his mom is single, and almost everyone is a bully from her boyfriend to the current school principle.
Sometimes you have to stop living by other peoples' rules and fight for your own freedom.
Rafe is quite the artist too as he creates a world in his drawing book to escape the real world issues.
At this new school the principal has it out for him so he and his best friend (who has a secret) concoct the ultimate series of pranks to not follow the school's rulebook.
The visual representations of Rafe's ordeals are actually really fun to watch if the live-action stuff is very standard and routine.
It's got a rocking soundtrack, vivid colors, some damn good child actors, and speaks to so many people having to suffer the middle school experience.
We all have bullies in one form or another and it's tough to have your own expression.
Didn't expect this one to be so uplifting, funny, and liberating.
Middle school doesn't have to the worst thing ever, it just has to be survivable.
