Review of Micmacs (2009) by Hunter S — 25 Jul 2010
I've decided to be of the opinion that Jeunet is, in some ways, a French Terry Gilliam. Scarlett had argued that he was a French Guillermo del Toro (but with more fanciful objects and fewer fanciful creatures, and I suppose with more porno shops). There's probably arguments for both, and he's not literally either, so there.
In any event, I learned from this film that, in France, a) it is generally thought of as a simple thing to scam warlords, and b) arms dealers involved in shady practices will meet with anyone on the strength of a phone call or email and are generally relatively credulous. In America these views are less widely held.
But seriously, good times all around.
