Review of Micmacs (2009) by Michael S — 03 Aug 2010
Jeunet's usual high level of inventiveness and visual panache are on display, but this lacks the heart and soul of his best films. Visually, this most resembles Delicatessen, with its sepia tones and depression era production design.
We don't expect realism in a Jeunet film, but the gimmickry here gets in the way of the story and defies the films internal logic at times. Its never dull to look at, but it never soars either.
