Review of Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005) by Athif S — 01 Mar 2008
This is a brilliant documentary, which asks so many questions from the viewer and gives lot of answers in retunâ?¦I am a metal head and I am proud of it..this is the documentray for u if u r one.. Sam Dunn, a true metal fan sets out in a journey to find an answer to why heavy metal music, and it's fans, have been stigmatized and labeled as this horrible thing in our society.
This is interesting stuff, and it's about time someone stood up and asked the questions, answered them, and presented it all in a package that no one can discount as being, "low-brow." Metal heads across the globe for over 30 years have been asking this very question, and it's nice to see someone really tackle it like this...I am a firm beleiver that metal music is a music of an outsider...it is a philosophy in itself and it has been therefore me always. Through this movie, I was glad to find out that there are so many people in the world jus like me..people who seek solace in metal...
As Sam Dunn says in the end 'If metal doesnt give u that overwhelming surge of power, and make your hair stand back of ur neck..u might never get it..Either u r a metalhead or u are not'..This is a documentary for all our so-called metal bands in Sri Lanka who doesnt know the essenese of metal and what it representsâ?¦It is about time they stop playing at valentines and coming up with all these sissy stuff and develop a true metal culture in SL..
