(1999) Message In A Bottle.
ROMANTIC/ DRAMA.
Based on a Nicolas Sparks novel of the same name, about single female newspaper writer, Theresa (Robin Wright Penn) finds bottle on a beach, after reading it then finding it to be romantic, she decides to use the newspaper agency to find it's owner who happen to live on some other harbor not close by where she lives. And later finds out to be, Garret (Kevin Kostner), where it's soon learned that those professesd love notes sent on the bottles she found, was supposed to go to his deceased wife! Theresa and Garret, of course eventually fall in love, only that he's totally oblivious of Theresa's original intentions! Paul Newman also stars as Garret's dad, and probably be the only character to be worth watching, except that the film wasn't about him!
Corny and stupid, Robin Wright's character seems to be giggling almost after every repsonse, either that or she's bawling, that it becomes rather annoying and repitive. The director must've seen "Pretty Woman" a few times, since the character in question reads her lines adding a little spontaneuty! The Kevin Costner character is 'one note', who doesn't even ask Theresa her business, the reason to see him in the first place, giving the audience the assumption that he's just that good looking and is not suspicious at all! There were supposed to be some scenes that were changed or on the chopping block, but to me didn't make much difference to me, since the experience was lousy to begin with!
2 out of 4.
