Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Tibor B — 26 Feb 2010
A more exciting second part to Richet's two Mesrine films, here Cassell is Mesrine as a fully fledged celebrity criminal. There are some great action scenes again, and the character is also developed further, from his misguided attempts at marketing himself as an idealist revolutionary to his inability to see eye to eye with any of his criminal partners.
SWagnier brings some glamour and energy as Mesrine's last squeeze, and the supporting cast are all excellent, but it's Cassell's movie and despite the unsavoury character, he almost manages to elicit some audience sympathy in the bloody finale.
