Review of House at the End of the Street (2012) by Tibor B — 29 Jun 2013
A very weak thriller that somehow attracted the talents of Shue and Lawrence, presumably because the script promises some character heavy focus. What this results in is dull stretches of Shue being a possessive mother and Lawrence trying to shrug her off, whilst intrigued by a loner who lives in the house his parents were murdered in by his sister.
There are a handful of very predictable jump scares, but otherwise it's devoid of much suspense and the final "twist" is literally a dumb, literally last minute, reveal which will surprise no-one.
Visually the film is messy too, with too much reliance on horrible post production effects. Although she probably wishes to delete this from her CV, Lawrence does decent enough work here, satisfactorily playing both the average teen with domestic issues and a potential slasher movie victim, complete with tight vest-top but she's fighting a losing battle in an otherwise dull and predictable genre film.
