Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Kevin C — 01 May 2010
Not quite living up to the heights of part one, but still a triumphant conclusion. Like the first it hits the ground running and some early action sequences are as good as The French Connection.
Less a psychological analysis this time, but we come to understand that Mesrine is addicted to his own infamy. Flirting with 1970s radicalness Mesrine becomes a publicity addict, and convinces himself and the media that he is some kind of Red Brigade revolutionary in spirit. Mesrine's brutal story is a fascinating premonition of our modern age of gangsters, gangstas and "respect".
