Review of Meshes of the Afternoon (1943) by Gabo T — 03 May 2012
This entrancing and mesmerising experimental film by Maya Deren is a piece of art where just looking at it shows you how influential it is. The picture has clearly echoed on through more recent filmmakers such as David Lynch, and when taking into account the time it was made, the rough, low budget techniques used in order to evoke the strong feeling the film gives you is startling.
A short, excellent film which I believe captures the essence of the mind and dreams like no other picture ever will.
