Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Radhika N — 01 Apr 2008
A1!! This is an excellent movie about 10 murders that happened in rural S. Korea between 1986-1991. We see the police force bumbling its way through the crime scenes, as often destroying evidence as concocting new evidence.
The arrival of a young officer from Seoul brings a touch of professionalism to the force but it continues to bumble its way through the investigations because of other detectives who are over-zealous.
And through all this, the director still manages to wield the camera to catch all the sub-currents in the story. You stay glued to the story start to finish - which is not so much a finish as an invitation to dwell.
Lovely piece of work!
