Review of Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992) by David T — 28 May 2013
John Carpenter's first film of the 90's and first studio film since "Big Trouble In Little China". I think the film's biggest problem is that it doesn't know how to take itself.
Silly or serious. I just read that Ivan Reitman was at first in the director's chair but couldn't get along with Chevy Chase about that exact problem. So Reitman told the studio "either him or me?".
The studio obviously went with Chase. Now I'm curious to see what Reiman could of brought to the table. He's good at mixing any genre with comedy, "Ghostbusters". Not knocking Carpenter cause his films are some of my favorites too.
During the film, I actually thought about the film with Chase and Neil switching roles. Might of made things interesting. Chase could still supply comedy despite him playing the villain. That's the only issue is that it's mismatched.
It has a great cast and crew but just a lost story. I'm curious on how the book is.
